Fast-Tool “Over-the-Joint” Method
Note: A Fast-Boot CV Boot can be installed in the traditional method or the time saving “over-the-joint” method using the Fast-Tool. Traditional instructions can be found elsewhere on the NORREC INDUSTRIES LLC website.
Follow the manufacturer’s repair manual to expose the end of the drive axle. Typically the wheel and hub are removed. The knuckle is separated from the lower suspension arm and then the knuckle and brake plate are separated from the axle. Check the axle for excessive wear and replace as necessary. Cut off damaged boot and clamps. Clean the CV joint using aerosol brake cleaner or carburetor cleaner and allow too dry.
IMPORTANT: BEFORE PUSHING THE BOOT OVER THE CONE MAKE SURE THE CONE DOES NOT HAVE ANY CUTS OR NICKS. USE SAND PAPER TO SMOOTH.
1) Spray the cone with well shaken cv boot installation lubricant.
2) Squeeze the arms of the FAST-TOOL together and slide the boot onto the arms to the second convolute. The boot must be at room temperature (or more) during installation or the boot may be difficult to push over the cone.
NOTE: When installing an inner boot turn the boot inside out before positioning on the FAST-TOOL. Turn the boot right side out when positioning on the joint
3) Press in the small end of the boot.
4) Spray the indented surface of the boot with cv boot installation lubricant.
5) Holding the boot in place center the boot over the cone.
6) Holding the flat end of the FAST-TOOL, use a firm and fluid motion to press the boot to the base of the cone. If the boot slides off base of cone reduce the amount of lubricant spray on cone and boot. If the boot hangs up on the cone increase the amount of lubricant spray.
7) Place the FAST-TOOL and cone over the joint.
8) Drive the boot over the joint by striking the base of the FAST-TOOL. Avoid pinching your fingers.
9) Grease the joint using grease provided. Position the boot over the joint.
